Job Description: Program Head, Girls in STEM
Position Summary: The Program Head for the Girls in STEM initiative would lead the designing,
implementation, and evaluation of all proposed elements of the Girls in STEM work at Avanti. This
includes end-to-end designing of the program ( in close collaboration with the leadership), establishing
partnerships with other program teams for effective implementation, and collaboration with other
external partners to reach the desired goals of the program. The role also includes designing of
program output/impact/outcome matrices and working with the research team to administer the right
tools for tracking and evaluating the success of the program.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to
Developing Girls in STEM Strategy and Program Design
 In collaboration with Avanti’s leadership, the GIS strategy and approach need continuous
revisiting and refinement over the next two years (24-26) to identify the initiatives to be rolled out
at scale
 The Program Head will be responsible for owning the programmatic priorities end-to-end along
with the Product Head and meeting deliverables and timelines as defined
Overseeing the Design/Execution of Priority Initiatives Focused on Girls
 To ensure the effective design and execution of priority initiatives for 2024-25, including:
STEM Clubs
 Collaborating with JNV and other state operations team of Avanti fellows for program
implementation.
 Collaborating with the Research and Evaluation team for designing the program impact and
evaluation matrix and tools.
 Making field visits to observe the implementation of the program and gain insights into the
strengths and need for improvement.
Breakthrough Partnership
 To work with Breakthrough and J-Pal evaluators to design and implement the at-home learning
program for Avant in one pilot school system
Leadership Projects
 To integrate leadership curriculum and hands-on projects into existing programs
Identifying and Nurturing Exceptional Girls
 Designing of the system for effective early identification of high potential girls at class 8/9 grade
level.
 Designing the program to extend additional support to these selected girls
 Development of curriculum; establishing partnerships for curating and developing content for
supporting the girls ( for building mindsets/ life skills)
 Direct online classes/interactions with the girls to extend mentorship and support.

Implementing Org-wide Gender Sensitive Practices
 Supporting the overall Girls’ In STEM initiative of Avanti fellows that aims at bringing parity in the
number of girls who gain access to best engineering and medical colleges of the country.
 Managing communication and partnerships with the donors (present) who are supporting the
program.
 Managing close communication with the Girls’ In STEM advocates of the Avanti fellows network
who financially and technically support the cause.
 Working closely with the fundraising team and the leadership for mobilizing resources for the
sustainability of the program.
 Ensure the teacher development approach integrates gender sensitive pedagogical practices
(as defined in the TeachWell v2 framework)
 Work with data teams to disaggregate all learning and outcomes data by gender to design and
refine intervention
